Taboo Free Love Boutique: Brand & Community Case Study

Actualizado: 28 sept
Building a brand around pleasure, education and community.
This case study explores the development of Taboo Free Love Boutique from its launch in 2020 to the creation of a digital and physical brand experience combining sexual wellness, education, community and events.
The Project
|
From zero presence to a growing community.
Taboo Free Love Boutique launched in March 2020, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I worked on the brand from its early stages, developing its digital presence, visual communication, content and community strategy while navigating the restrictions of communicating sexual wellness products on social media.
As the project grew, its presence expanded from digital platforms into three physical stores and in person community experiences.
The challenge
|
How do you talk about pleasure
when platforms restrict the conversation?
Launching a sex shop on social media required finding a way to communicate products, sexuality and pleasure without constantly risking content restrictions.
During the first year, the original social media account was removed, requiring us to rebuild the digital community from scratch and rethink the content strategy.
The challenge became more than selling products: it was about creating a recognizable voice capable of combining commerce, sexual education and community.
The Strategy
|
From selling products
to creating conversations.
I shifted the content strategy toward sexual education, conversation and community, allowing products to exist within a broader narrative around pleasure, bodies, relationships and sexual wellness.
Educational video became an important part of the strategy, expanding content into YouTube and other digital platforms while reducing dependence on a single social network.
Visual Direction
|
From explicit product communication
to sensory storytelling.
I developed a visual language focused on suggestion, texture, intimacy and sensory detail, allowing the brand to communicate sexuality without relying on explicit imagery.
The direction was applied across photography, video, graphic content, campaigns and social media.

Community & Experiences
|
From followers to shared experiences.
The project expanded beyond digital communication through in-person events and sensory experiences in Guadalajara, developed in collaboration with the local LGBTQ+ community.
These included Kiki Balls, BDSM workshops, body and image conversations, among other activities designed to create spaces for learning, expression and community.
Content System
|
Different ways to talk about pleasure.
I organized the content into strategic territories designed to balance commercial communication, technical expertise, and brand building.
